SUN CABLE, DARWIN NT

The exciting innovative world of solar power touched down in Darwin.

With Sun Cable receiving mayor project status from the NT government they reached out to Bennett Architecture to assist in making this a reality.

The main assembly line to be located in Darwin was the first focus.

Assembly line designs tend to be simple shed like structures to create a basic shell for the functional requirements inside.

Being Bennett Architecture, we push the limits to what a shed can be. The design must speak of innovation and sustainability. With the size of these main structures we shape the design to create a dynamic form which flows from one to the next as one drives past the site.

The mass of the roof structure is broken up with a playful puzzle of solar panels spread out in a random but systematic pattern on all roofs which assists in the dynamic design methodology. Rhythm, axis and the play with sunlight and shadows are a big design tool to accomplish this in a simplistic way.
