MCLAREN VALE RESIDENCE, SA
This heritage building in McLaren Vale was originally the local doctor’s residence and surgery in 1850. In its time, it was one of very few buildings in the immediate area but since then surrounding development has seen the original parcel of land has been reduced significantly.
Bennett Architecture were engaged to provide additional spaces to this house for a moderate sized family, which incorporated three additional bedrooms, two living areas and supporting amenities to suit. All designs were coordinated with a heritage planner and respected the existing fabric while avoiding impact on the original façade. Close proximity to a 150-year-old pepper tree and water well were considered throughout the project which were both a design constraint and a risk during construction.
Additionally, significant site works and landscaping have alleviated historical drainage issues and now allows for more outdoor family activities.
