chan building MUSEUM & ART GALLERY, NT

Bennett Architecture had the pleasure of submitting a concept proposal for repurposing the Chan Building into a new branch of the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Among the eight finalists, we were shortlisted to further present our design.

Our concept's point of departure emerged from the strong presence of connectivity and networking which Darwin demonstrates. Accompanied by a well established local artist whose work focuses on weaving 3D elements; the articulation of our deisng highlights these qualities in its surrounding context while ensuring a palatable exhibition space & hub inside. Unfortunately our submission was not the prizewinner; however we have received extremely positive feedback from numerous parties which we are exceptionally proud of.
